Warner Robins and Bainbridge came into their matchup Friday with plenty at stake. In particular might have been the thought of not being the bottom dweller in Region 1-AAAAA. Both were 0-3 at that point. Now the Bearcats are 1-4. They beat the Demons, at Warner Robins, 13-0.
The game was closer than the final most of the way, but still would have required a significant effort from the host as they fell behind 7-0 early. Bainbridge strung together three hits to go up 2-0 in the first. The Demons looked as if they would answer, but Jacob Conner’s leadoff double came to naught – and him left on third.
An error that allowed the leadoff runner to reach in the second, followed by two singles, two doubles and a walk, enabled Bainbridge to put up the five. Both went scoreless through innings three through five before the Bearcats pushed one across in the sixth and five more in the seventh.
They out-hit Warner Robins 13-5.
Conner had two of those, Taylor McGee, Carson Mellinger and Reece Page had the others – all 1-3.
Carson Inlow and Noah Bryant – in the one-two spot – accounted for five of the Bainbridge’s. Inlow was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored – he also walked – and Bryant was 3-4 with four driven in and one scored.
Mellinger took the loss. He worked two innings, gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one. Jared Cruse worked five. He gave up the other six hits, walked two and struck out three.
The Demons fell to 3-9 overall while Bainbridge improved to 7-5.
