Demons Survive at Evans

The Warner Robins Demons played the Evans Knights at Evans last night in a thriller that came down to the wire. The game was sloppy in every aspect, but Warner Robins came out on top, but barely, beating the Knights 21-19. The Demons improve to 5-1 (4-1) in the region.

Scoring started on a 6 minute drive by Evans in the 1st quarter, and with 2:07 to go, Knights’ QB Lackey sneaked it in from one yard out with Tyler PAT good. Evans up 7-0 late in the 1st. Demons came back on the next series, and from the 24 yard line, Bradford-Jackson runs in for the score with 1:06 left in the middle georgia state universityfirst quarter, Shaw PAT good, score is an even 7-7. After a short Evans punt, WRHS had good field position. Marquez Callaway took a jet-sweep to the house for 63 yards, Shaw’s PAT was good and the scoreboard read 14-7 in favor of the Demons; That would also be the score at halftime.

With 3:13 left to go in the 3rd quarter, Derrick Mims ran it in from 11 yards, but a high snap forced the PAT to be blocked, score is now 14-13 Demons. The next drive when the Demons needed it, they drove 71 yards, and with 11:40 to go in the game, Michael Bradley took it in from 11 yards out, Connor Shaw adds PAT, Demons remain up 21-13. Evans gathered up what they had left in this rainy game and executed a comeback drive of 57 yards in about three minutes. With 1:24 to go in the game, Holiday took it in from four yards out and the Knights had to go for two on the PAT in order to tie it up. Lackey tried a QB keeper around the left end, but the Demons defense stopped him cold. They would go on to win the ballgame, the score was WRHS Demons 21, Evans Knights 19.
