Quidashasia Dunnom and Tyeasha McKenzie each put 14 points on the scoreboard Tuesday. It took an obvious “team” effort, but combined, they put up more points than Houston County combined.
The Lady Eagles won 42-20 to improve to 1-1 in Region 1-AAAAAA, 12-3 overall. The Lady Bears on the other hand, fell to 1-2, 5-9.
Dunnom and McKenzie not only mirrored each other’s total, they duplicated their efforts in the first quarter. Dunnom had two baskets. McKenzie had likewise. McKenzie hit a trey. Ditto for Dunnom. Combined there, they represented 14 of Northside’s 15 points – Kaliyah Little, with her only points of the ballgame, provided the 15th with a free throw (one-of-two).
Houston County, the host, could only manage a basket during the period. It came via Destiny Pollard, who led the Lady Bears with eight.
Houston County did score seven in the second. Northside scored eight, however, to lead 23-9 at the break.
The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Bears 14-4 in the third. Houston County then outscored it 7-5 in the fourth. All five of Northside’s points came via Kiara Mack-Blue, who finished with seven.
Northside’s boys rolled in the nightcap, 75-50. They led 22-9 after one and 36-13 at the half. A 22-point third for the Eagles matched up against an 18-point one for the Bears put Northside up, 58-31, heading into the final frame.
The win enabled the Eagles to even up their Region 1-AAAAAA record at 1-1 (6-9 overall). Houston County on the other hand fell to 0-3 (4-11 overall).
