Harris County scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a three-all tie and go on to win 5-3 over Veterans.
The Lady Tigers, who out-hit the Lady Warhawks 13-7, started the game with two runs in the first. They added a third in the third.
All of Veterans’ runs came in the sixth. Emily Myers’ two-run homerun that brought in Kaylee Brown (1-3 with a walk), who had walked, took care of a pair. (Myers finished 2-3.)
Jalah Gainous followed that up with a walk. Nicole Chavous replaced her as a pinch runner. She stole second and came home on Cailyn Snellgrove’s single.
The Lady Warhawks went in order in their half of the seventh.
The loss was fairly significant as far as the standings go. Veterans finished Region 1-
AAAAA regular-season play 3-5. Could it have beaten Harris County, it had a chance to jump over Thomas County Central for the No. 3 seed. The Lady Yellow Jackets, which split results with the Lady Warhawks, are currently 3-4 in the division but also have a game to finish out against Harris County – currently 5-2.
Perry can empathize. It began the Region 2-AAAA tournament Monday with a pair of losses to West Laurens. The Lady Raiders won 8-0, 15-1. They will play Mary Persons to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for state. The Lady Bulldogs beat Howard 15-0, 10-0. The Lady Huskies will play Perry today – 2 p.m. is the listed time – to determine the No. 3 and 4 for state.
