HoCo girls blow past Lovejoy in Game 1 at state; Veterans swept by Locust Grove

And then the rains came.

That apparently was the only thing that could stop Houston County in the first round of the GHSA Class AAAAAA state tournament.

Facing off against Lovejoy, the No. 3 seed out of Region 4 – Houston County the No. 2 out of Region 1 – the Lady Bears rolled in the first game 15-0. They were leading 6-0 in the second game and heading into the bottom of the first before the bottom dropped out (no word on a reschedule).

Houston County took Game 1 in three innings. It scored 12 runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third. It also put up 12 hits.

Makayla Krepps had three of those in three trips to the plate. One was a double. One was a homerun, as she drove in six total while also scoring three times.

Also, Lauren Ross went 2-2 with three runs driven in. Ansley Garland went 1-2 with a walk and drove in a pair and Averi Martin went 1-1 with a walk and plated two more.

Rylee Lamb threw the three innings. She gave up two hits while striking out six.

Veterans was not as fortunate as the Lady Bears. It entered the AAAAA side as the No. 4 seed and had to face off on the road against Locust Grove, the No. 1.

As a result, it was swept. The Lady Wildcats won the first game 10-6 and the second 12-1.

The first was a heartbreaker. The Lady Warhawks were trailing 6-3 heading into the sixth when they tied it. Locust Grove, however, answered with a four-spot to pull back away and end their season.
