Houston County boys win annual Fendley Relays

Houston County finished first overall in the 2018 running of the Fendley Relays (boys only) meet held Thursday at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. The Bears compiled 129.5 points. Bleckley County was second and finished with 77.

Mary Persons earned 62 and was third, while Peach County was fourth with 58.

Warner Robins and Griffin tied for fifth with 56, while Northside was seventh with 45.5. Perry was eighth with 41, Jones County ninth with 30, Veterans 10th with 26 and Americus-Sumter rounded out the field with 5.

Houston County was first in the discus throw. Wesley Steiner won that with a throw of 150-04. (The Panthers’ Jaylen Johnson was second with a throw of 125-04.) Kyah Plummer also won the triple jump for the Bears. He did so with a distance of 44-11.00. KeSheon Jarrett was also third with a distance of 42-05. (The Demons’ Tyrell Bailey was second at 44-08.)

Houston County’s “A” team also won the 800-sprint medley. The team of Khalil Polk, Wesley Steiner, Javaris Michaels and Antonio Doster crossed in 1:33.04 (about two seconds ahead of the second place team from Griffin).

The Bears’ “A” team of Doster, Tim Feezor, Tyler Douglas and Cahmaury Murray also won the 4X800 meter relay. They did so in 9:11.35 in the finals. Ditto for the 4X400 meter relays in which Douglas, Josh Wheeler, Michaels and Doster won by just over four seconds – 3:36.62.

Other local first-place finishers included Braxton Golden of Northside. He won the shot put with a throw of 47-05. O’Lando Hicks also swept the adapted sports events. He won the shot put (21-07), 200-meter dash (45.28) and 800-meter run (3:49.76).

Jones County’s Levi Moss won the long jump with a distance of 22-03. (Myles Melton was second in that event – 20-06.)

Arnold Porter won the pole vault for Bleckley County (13-06) and his teammate Torenio Davis won the high jump. He cleared 6-04.

Mary Persons’ team of four won the distance medley, Peach County’s “A” team won the 4X100 meter relay and fellow Trojan Cameron Blake won the 300-meter hurdles (40.90 – about two second ahead of Polk for the Bears). Blake also won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.37. (The Demons’ Devontae Glass was second – 15.76.)

And finally, Justin Wachtel of Mary Persons won the 3200-meter run. He completed it with a time of 10:49.82. (Perry’s Bryan Storie was second with a time of 10:54.65.)
