CARROLLTON -- Houston County's bid to become the first public school from Middle Georgia to win a GHSA soccer championship fell short, as McIntosh secured its fourth title with a 2-0 win at Wolves Field on the campus of the University of West Georgia Saturday.

KATHLEEN -- When Veterans High School opened in 2010, several of its athletic teams dealt with the creation of a unified identity. Kids came from other schools and knew other methods. They needed to put those things aside and learn the way of the Warhawk.

Teams, like buildings, need strong foundations. So when recently-hired Houston County football coach and director of athletics Von Lassiter found himself with the chance to construct both, he jumped at the opportunity.

PERRY -- Perry baseball coach Shawn Masters tried to put one over on Rutland a few nights ago. Hoping to hide Nick Martens' return to the Perry lineup, Masters inserted his senior star as the seventh hitter in the order.
Maybe the Rutland pitchers would ease up after managing the heart of Perry's lineup. Maybe they'd throw a few batting practice fastballs.
"I was hoping (Rutland) wouldn't remember him," Masters said, "but they did."
