The Region 1-AAAAAA champion Northside Lady Eagles had another of its squad sign a college scholarship recently. This time it was Tikarra Benoit who inked her Letter of Intent to the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick.
“She meant a great deal (to this team),” said Lady Eagles Head Coach Ashleigh Fox, the team finishing 17-10 but falling by one point (52-51) to Greenbrier in the GHSA state tournament. “I couldn’t even run my primary defenses if she wasn’t in,” Fox continued. “She played the point of our 1-3-1 and she also played the point of our diamond press.
“So she’s very versatile in that she can guard guards and post players and she can move. She has a decent wingspan, so the coach (Roger Hodge) at Coastal Georgia is very excited to get a player like that.”
Benoit averaged 10.63 points per game, according to her profile on Next College Student Athlete. She also had a free throw percentage of 67.2 and averaged nearly two rebounds a game.
She will be joining a Lady Mariners team that can … well, use her help. They finished 6-23 overall, 3-17 in the conference and finished out the year by losing 13 straight.
Again, that “versatility and her defensive versatility,” will help, Fox said. Above and beyond that, “She loves basketball. I communicated that to him (Hodge). That she will work. That she will improve.
“She’s got so much potential that she hasn’t even scratched the surface. She’s going to be a great player for them.”
