The Perry Lady Panthers claimed a pair of games from Upson-Lee last night on the campus of Perry High School. The wins mean that Perry will play in the region 2 AAAA tournament which starts on Wednesday in Dublin, Georgia The Lady Panthers will also be a representative from the region in the state GHSA playoffs later this month.
Perry earned a lead they would not relinquish in game one when Lauren Heath singled in Madyson Kelly for the game’s first run. Samantha Smith added a solo homerun in the the 2nd inning. Perry would add insurance runs in the 5th innning. After singles by Charisma Winkler and Olivia Hardy, Madyson Kelly slammed a double to center which drove both home. Ashley Gidney provided defense from the rubber as she pitched the complete game, surrendering six hits, and striking out four.
The Lady Panthers found themselves trailing in game two despite a three run first inning offensive burst. Upson-Lee managed to score six runs in the 2nd inning and led by three until the 5th inning when the home team found two out magic. Freshman left fielder L.T. Reynolds cranked out a clutch, two out, extra base hit down the right field line which gave Perry the lead for good. This hit sparked a huge seven run, 5th inning rally that gave the cats a four run lead. Perry added three more runs in the 6th inning and finished off the Knights by a final of 13-6.
Harley Padgett (5-6), Lauren Heath (4-5), Mattie Hamilton (3-5), Lillian Reynolds(3-5)all had big nights at the plate for the Lady Panthers in game two. Kendall Nutgrass pitched well in relief as she did not surrender a run and gave up only one hit in 3 1/3 innings pitched.
Perry will play Mary Persons at 5PM, Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Southern Pines in Dublin, Georgia to begin the region 2AAAA tournament.
