Rome’s girls had this. It was able to break Veterans’ streak of three-straight consecutive shutouts (four of its last five and 11 on the year – and counting).
Rome had that. What it didn’t have was a win – another high-scoring win for the Lady Warhawks, Tuesday at home in the Class AAAAA Sweet 16.
This time, led in part by hat tricks from Maranda Krirat and Danielle Coumbs, Veterans won 9-1.
Anna Luque also scored, as did Brenly Townsend and Sage Sammeli as the Lady Warhawks went up 4-1 at the half and then added five more in the second.
Next up for the girls will be Buford, the Region 8, No. 1 seed. It, too, is high scoring, having beaten Locust Grove 10-0 Tuesday and North Springs 8-1 prior to that.
The game is set for Friday at 6 p.m. on Freedom Field.
On the boys’ side, Veterans did not fare as well. They lost to 2-1 to Rome – both of the Wolves’ goals coming in the first half – to finish out their season Region 1-AAAAA champs and 15-5.
