NHS wrestler wins state; 2 others finish runner-up

Northside’s Dashawn Farber earned a state championship at the 2016-17 Traditional Wrestling State Tournament held Feb. 9-11 at the Macon Coliseum.

Farber, a freshman who finished the year 24-2, beat Miles Paramore (56-7) of Valdosta, a senior, in the 132-pound weight class in Class AAAAA. He won by an 11-4 decision.

Two from the local area also finished runner-up. They were Reed Vincent of Houston County and Julian Farber of Veterans.

At the AAAAAA Class, Vincent (39-2), a sophomore, came up short in a 7-3 decision to Ethan Phillips (44-2), a senior out of Chattahoochee. That was at 138 pounds.

At AAAAA, Farber (60-4), a freshman lost a 3-0 decision to sophomore Logan Ashton (42-2) of Buford in the 106-pound weight class.

Two other Warhawks finished fifth. At 132 pounds, senior Michael Mort (61-9) beat Luke Sawyer (7-5), a junior out of Carrollton, by a fall at the 1:55 mark. Sophomore Jacob Pierce (41-8) also won by fall – 3:06 mark – over senior Levi Leach (47-25) from Walnut Grove.

Finally, of those who finished first-through-sixth, Perry senior Carl Whitehead lost to Oconee County senior Dalton Sikes in a fall at 3:44. That was at 285 pounds and at the AAAA Class.
