Quidashasia Dunnom and Tamia Sapp each chipped in 16 to lead Northside’s girls to a 54-44 win over Warner Robins Saturday at the home of the Lady Eagles.
Jordan Thomas scored 19 to lead the Demonettes, which suffered their second weekend loss. The girls also fell to Harris County in a Region 1-AAAAA matchup Friday. That one ended 64-33 in favor of the Lady Tigers. They led 12-3 after one and 32-5 at the half. Warner Robins did keep pace in the second half, falling short 19-12 in the third but outscoring the host 16-13 in the final frame.
The combined results left the Demonettes at 9-4, 0-1 on the year, while the Lady Tigers improved improved to 12-2, 2-0.
Northside’s girls – and boys – also had a Friday matchup, a Region 1-AAAAAA contest at Valdosta. That one went into overtime, with the Lady Wildcats winning 54-52. The Lady Eagles led 12-10 after one but trailed by one, 21-20, at the half. Northside put up 16 in the third to Valdosta’s 14, but the Lady Wildcats sent it into the extra period with 11 points to the Lady Eagles’ 10. Valdosta then edged Northside 8-6 in overtime.
The combined activity left the Lady Eagles at 10-4 overall, 0-1 in the division. Valdosta improved to 9-6, 1-0.
On the boys’ side, Warner Robins rolled past Northside 88-52. It also had little trouble with Harris County on Friday. The Demons also had little trouble with Harris County in their Region 1-AAAAA matchup. Warner Robins rolled in that one, 80-55, leading 19-14 after one and 36-25 at the half. A 28-point third versus the Tigers’ 16 put the Demons up 64-46 heading into the final quarter.
All told, Warner Robins improved to 12-2 overall, 2-0 in the division. Harris County fell to 4-10, 1-1, while Northside, which also fell to Valdosta Friday, 52-44, fell to 5-9, 0-1 in 1-AAAAAA.
Elsewhere, Houston County’s boys dropped two Region 1-AAAAAA contests. The Bears fell to Lee County 69-58 Friday and Coffee 67-53 Saturday. They fell to 4-10, 0-2. Lee County improved to 5-10, 1-0 and Coffee 1-0, 7-6.
The Lady Bears did beat Lee County 34-28, but their results against Coffee were unknown.
Veterans also had a twin-bill for the weekend. It took on Bainbridge in a 1-AAAAA matchup Friday and Howard Saturday.
For the girls, that translated to a 50-28 win over Howard but a 61-38 loss to the Lady Bearcats. The Lady Warhawks dropped to 0-1 in the division as a result, 11-3 overall. Bainbridge improved to 2-1, 16-2.
Veterans’ boys dropped both, 55-50 to Bainbridge, 78-69 to Howard. They fell to 4-10, 0-1 as a result.
