Once a Panther, always a Panther.
Not many can make that boast – in relation to team mascots – but Bryan Storie can. He is going from the Perry “Panthers” to the LaGrange “Panthers.” That transition will come as a result of him being offered and signing a college scholarship to continue his education and sports career there.
Storie will contribute in two ways: cross country and basketball. He’s actually not alone in those efforts. His coach, Jasen Jones, will be marking his first year as the cross country coach (both men and women’s). Storie will see plenty of him, as Jones is also the basketball coach – marking his second year as head coach and fifth overall (the Panthers were 13-13 his first year).
Storie has been a member of Perry’s cross country team for two years. “He has been solid in our number two spot and has been a tremendous leader on our team,” said Head Coach Brett Hardy, who most know is also no stranger to coaching both cross country and basketball.
Storie, Hardy said, hit a personal best of 17:12 in the 5K this past season and set a new personal best – 10:26.09, which put him 13th; but also just 30 seconds out of the top 10 – in the two-mile run at the GHSA Class AAAA state track and field meet held May 10-12 in Berry.
