AliRae Dykes’ double in the bottom of the eighth gave Perry an 8-7 walk-off win over Upson-Lee Thursday.
The inning started with a pop out. Carsen Garner reached on an error. Following another pop out, Dykes stepped up to the plate and hit the game winner.
The win evened the Lady Panthers’ record in 2-AAAA to 3-3 (8-9 overall). The Lady Trojans in turn fell to 2-4 (7-8).
Perry started the game with a run in the first. That held up until the third when Upson-Lee tied it. The Lady Panthers then went back out front with a run in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Trojans again tied it in the fifth. Then, they exploded for five in the sixth to go up 7-2. Perry answered likewise in the bottom half of the inning to tie it. A scoreless seventh by both sent it into extra innings.
Perry edged Upson-Lee in hits 11-10. Dykes had four of those in five at bats. She also drove in three and scored twice.
Abby Ussery added two more RBIs while going 1-3.
Allison Peavy worked five innings. She gave up seven hits and six runs. She also struck out one and walked two.
Reagan Hughes worked the final three innings. She struck out one and didn’t walk a batter.
