Perry boys build momentum; Lady Panthers suffer first region loss

Perry’s boys continue to gain momentum as Region 2-AAAA play hits the homestretch. The Panthers won their second straight and third in four games Tuesday at home, 73-63, over Spalding.

Perry will finish off the regular season against the Jaguars again Feb. 1. The boys also have division games against West Laurens (Friday), Upson-Lee (Jan. 22), Howard (Jan. 25) and Mary Persons (Jan. 29).

Tuesday’s victory put them at 2-3 in the region – fourth out of the six teams – and 5-10 overall. Spalding fell to 1-4, 4-14.

The news was not so good for Perry’s girls. They suffered their first region loss, it to the Lady Jaguars, 62-40.

A slow start didn’t help. Perry only managed seven points in the first and seven in the second. Spalding on the other hand put up 20 in the first and 16 in the second.

It also managed 12 in the third to the Lady Panthers’ nine. That left it 48-23 heading into the fourth.

The loss put Perry at 4-1 in the region, 10-5 overall. Spalding is also 4-1 (14-5) as is West Laurens. The Lady Jaguars’ loss came to the aforementioned Lady Raiders, whereas their loss came to the Lady Panthers.
