As change goes Perry made some this past week heading into Region 2-AAAA play against Upson-Lee and West Laurens, Tuesday at home. That is per Head Coach Jamie Stewart, who said specifically: “We made some changes … on how we run the floor and it really seemed to pay off.”
Stewart also said prior to that, that she encouraged the girls to celebrate the “little” things. There was a “lot” of that to celebrate, she said, but there were also the “big” things: I.e. sweeping both 2-0. The Lady Panthers beat Upson-Lee 25-18, 25-18 and West Laurens 25-9, 25-18.
“The girls played well, communicated better, and put the ball down a lot better as well,” she said. “We have more adjustments to make, primarily on defense, but we are making great gains.”
Standouts were many. In fact, Stewart said, it was the team’s “stellar” night. “The best teamwork we’ve seen all season,” she added.
Evidence came by way of 28 aces – 13 belonging to Sophomore Rachel Dowd – and 24 kills – 11 of those from Senior Leah Spears.
Perry will next host Peach County. That match is set for Thursday, 5 p.m. for junior varsity and 6 p.m. for varsity.
