Perry finished third at the Westminster Duals Saturday. In the openers, the Panthers defeated Marist, 55-22, fell to St. Pius, 49-24, and were edged by the host, 43-42.
They then lost to Heritage-Coosa, 45-27, and Adairsville, 33-32.
Zeke Taylor and Ethan Barker were two of Perry’s top finishers. Both were 5-0. Also, Brannen Moss, Carleek Woodsen and Jordan Karchella each finished 4-1.
In other action, Houston County had a first-place finisher in Reed Vincent at the Sixth Annual Walnut Grove Warrior Rumble – a venue that included 21 varsity and 18 junior varsity teams – held at Walnut Grove High School Friday and Saturday. The junior Bear finished 3-0 in the 152-pound weight class. He, Head Coach Todd George said, came in as the No. 1 see and upheld his No. 1 seed with a first-period pin in the finals against Nolan Sarrows of Jefferson.
Senior Zach Cheek also placed third in the 160-pound weight class. He was 4-1, losing in the semis with a “tough matched opponent,” George said, but battling back from there for bronze.
On the JV side, Sophomore Jamire Sparks also finished third at the 145-pound weight class. He also finished 4-1.
