Veterans rolls in first round of state tourney

It might have been the proverbial: adding insult to injury.

That is, the fact Eagles Landing’s bus broke down north of Macon while en route to Veterans for its GHSA Class AAAAA state tournament opener.

Then, after finally reaching the home of the Lady Warhawks, it was quickly dispatched 3 sets to 0. Veterans won the first, 25-10, the second, 25-9, and finale, 25-16.

Katie Reiff helped lead the girls with seven kills. Lorelei Diamond, Head Coach Marlene Rogers said, had a “good night” with five kills, eight digs and four aces.

Also, Ashley Dostie chipped in six aces and five digs and Izzy Coddington put up 26 assists.

The Lady Warhawks will next take on Whitewater, the No. 3 seed out of Area 3. It upset No. 2 seed Statesboro 3-0. That matchup is listed on the GHSA bracket for Oct. 17 at Veterans.

Two other contests today are: Evans at Houston County and Eastside at Perry. The Lady Bears’ match is set for 6 p.m. The first serve for the Lady Panthers is scheduled for 5 p.m.
