One is undefeated. One is still looking for its first win.
That’s the difference between Veterans and Perry with the first contributing to the woes of the second Monday via an 8-0 win. The Lady Warhawks are now 2-0. The Lady Panthers fell to 0-3.
A three-run first proved to be the catalyst. The other five came in the sixth, but with the way Jenna West was pitching, they turned out just to be the proverbial icing on the cake. West went the distance. She scattered four hits, walked one and struck out one.
Jalah Gainous helped lead the offense. She went 2-3 with a walk and drove in three. One of those came in the first, a bases-loaded single that brought in Kyndall Foster and Skyler Welford, each of which had singled. The third run came via Anna Dumas’ ground ball that was unable to be fielded. The error brought home in Sarah Wilkerson who had walked.
Veterans finished with 12 hits overall. Jenna Thomas also went 2-4 with a run scored, Foster 2-2 with two runs scored, Welford 2-4 with an RBI and two scored and Dumas 2-4 with two driven in.
Perry picked up its first hit when L.T. Reynolds doubled. That came with two outs, however, and she was left stranded when West struck out the next hitter.
