Veterans’ girls improved to 4-1 on the young season with a 56-47 win over Houston County at home Tuesday.
The Lady Bears on the other hand, suffered their first loss in six games. They did lead 14-10 after one, but an 11-4 second quarter in favor of the Lady Warhawks made it 21-18 at the half. Veterans, with 20 from Tamia Luckey, 16 from Stacie Jones and 11 by Zkeria Jenkins, then pulled away with a 21-12 third quarter. Houston County won the fourth, 17-14.
Veterans’ boys won the nightcap to improve to 5-0. They edged out the Bears, who fell to 2-3, 50-47.
In other action, Perry was at West Laurens where it was swept.
The Lady Panthers fell 46-22. The fourth was what really did them in. They were outscored 18-5 that quarter. Prior to that, they trailed 12-6 after one and 19-10 at the half. The Lady Raiders edged them in the third, 9-7, to lead 28-17 heading into the final frame.
Perry fell to 0-2 as a result, while West Laurens improved to 3-2.
On the boys’ side, the Panthers fell 64-50. They trailed 18-6 after one and 34-11 at the half. Adjustments helped them win the final two quarters – 15-12, 24-18 – but it obviously wasn’t enough.
They also fell to 0-2 whereas for the Raiders, it was their first win in five games.
