Warhawk girls, boys and Bears advance

Veterans’ girls and Houston County’s boys rolled. The Warhawks posted a shutout and the Lady Bears, Warner Robins’ girls and boys, Northside’s boys and Perry’s boys all fell as the first round of the GHSA state tournament got under way Thursday and Friday.

The Lady Warhawks won 10-0 over Fayette County. The Warhawks won 4-0. They will both now host Rome Tuesday, with the girls game slated to start at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m. Rome’s girls won 7-0 over Arabia Mountain while its boys edged out Chamblee 8-7.

The Bears clobbered Evans 10-0. They will face Centennial at home Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

As far as the rest, the Lady Bears were edged out 2-1 by Greenbrier, the Demonettes were out-matched by McIntosh 10-0 and Northside’s boys were upset – the Eagles were a No. 2 seed and the opponent No. 3 (although the score hardly looks like an upset) – 7-0 by Lakeside, Evans 7-0.

Finally, Warner Robins’ boys lost 11-1 to Starr’s Mill and Perry’s boys were downed by Woodward Academy 3-0.
