It took three overtimes but Veterans’ boys picked up their first win of the year Tuesday. The Warhawks did so with an 82-72 win over Perry.
Veterans led 10-8 after one and 34-28 at the break. The Panthers cut it to 46-43 with a 15-12 third and then tied it by outscoring their host 12-9 in the fourth.
Both then put up seven in the first extra period and 10 in the second before the Warhawks got the edge, 10-7, in the third.
They improved to 1-2 while Perry fell to the same mark.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Panthers won 45-38. Just a point separated them after one, 6-5. Perry led 16-14 at the break and then managed to put a little separation between them after three. It was 30-24 at that point. The Lady Panthers then edged out Veterans 15-14 in the fourth.
Perry evened its record at 1-1 with the win while the Lady Warhawks suffered their first loss and are at 2-1.
Elsewhere, Houston County’s girls remained undefeated. The Lady Bears beat Crisp County on the road 42-21 to improve to 2-0.
The boys also won 56-54. They improved to 2-2 while both Cougars teams were left still searching for their first win. The boys are 0-4 while the girls dropped to 0-5.
