10-4 Good Buddy; Dogs win

The Mary Persons Bulldogs hosted the Columbus Blue Devils in a winner-take-all Game Three earlier this evening and the result was a 10-4 Bulldogs’ victory to win the series and advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2012. Columbus got the scoring started in the top of the second with an rbi double to make the score 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Black, Gold, and White took it’s first lead of the contest when Caden Taylor hit a two rbi double to drive in Ian Lewis and Cole Carr to make the score 2-1 MP and the host would extend it’s lead to 3-1 in the last of the third when Ian Lewis reached first base on an E6 that would allow Tristan Hunt to score and that would be the score going into the top of inning five.

The Blue Devils made a rally in the first of the fifth by plating a run via an E6 to cut the gap down to 3-2 and they would tie the game at 3 by scoring on a wild pitch. In the last of the fifth, MP retook the lead 4-3 when Cole Carr was walked that would carousel the bases and drive in Gavin Barr and Ryan Causey would score on a passed ball to make the score 5-3 in favor of the host going into the top of the sixth.

The visitors would plate a run on an rbi single to make the score 5-4 MP going into the last of the sixth. The Bulldogs would pull away and put the game and series on ice when Ryan Causey hit an rbi single to make the score 6-4 MP and Ian Lewis would blow the lead open by hitting a monster grand slam to drive in himself, Tristan Hunt, Brady Christman, and Ryan Causey to make the score 10-4 in favor of the Black, Gold, and White.

The host would shut the Blue Devils down in the top of the seventh to win Game Three 10-4 to win the series 2-1 to advance to the AAA Quarterfinals. Ian Lewis led the Bulldogs in rbis with five followed by Caden Taylor with two and Ryan Causey and Cole Carr with one a piece.

MP’ three pitchers; Andrew Snow, Zack Grizzard, and Tristan Hunt combined to allow four runs (two earned) on nine hits, walking three, and striking out 10 in the process. Columbus’ pitchers combined to allow 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits, walking eight, and striking out six in the process. Jonathan Miller and Will Taylor were responsible for both of the Blue Devils’ rbis in Game Three.

Mary Persons improves to 21-12 on the season and will host the Wesleyan Wolves out of Norcross on Saturday in a DH with the if game slated for next Monday while Columbus finishes 2024 at 18-16 overall.
