Bears’ Chavis dazzles on the mound as HoCo shuts out Perry; Other results

HoCo…. for the first time this season scored less than 10 runs in a single game as they defeated county rival Perry 3-0 at the Panther Pit yesterday evening. The Bears jumped on the Panthers early by scoring two runs in the top half of the first via an Andrew Dunford rbi single & an Elijah Smith rbi single. HoCo later added one more run in the top of the third when Andrew Dunford hit a solo home run deep to right to increase the lead to 3-0 Bears.

The rest of the game would be scoreless as both team’s pitching were superb. HoCo starting pitcher Ryker Chavis stuck out 10 & allowed no runs in 5 innings of work while Andrew Dunford closed out the game by striking out three & allowing no runs in two innings of relief work.

Cooper Edwards was the starting pitcher for Perry as he struck out five & allowed three runs. Ben McDow came in & pitched the remainder of the game by allowing no runs & striking out five. Perry got runners on base throughout the game but were unable to cash in any runs.

HoCo improved to 6-0 overall & will travel to Hoover, Alabama to take on the Helena, AL Huskies in Round One of the PG Showdown Tournament on Thursday March 2nd. The Panthers fell to 8-1 overall & will take on Strong Rock Christian on Friday March 3rd in the TSA Tournament.

This past Friday Perry hosted county rival Northside & won 10-2 to sweep the regular season series against the Eagles & speaking of the Eagles; Northside played at Rutland on Thursday & lost 12-8. Veterans traveled to ACE Charter on Wednesday & picked up their second one-run victory over the Gryphons this time 4-3. The Warhawks hosted Vidalia on Friday in a doubleheader & won game one 3-2 & game two 10-3.

Warner Robins picked up a pair of wins over the Southwest Patriots at home this past week by winning 14-2 on Wednesday & 17-2 in three innings on Friday. Cameron Lester allowed no runs in two innings of work on Friday.

The Demons who are unofficially 2-4 overall will open region play at Ola tomorrow at 5:55pm. Veterans will play at Mary Persons tomorrow at 6:30pm…. the Warhawks are currently 6-2 overall. Northside is unofficially 1-4 overall & will travel to take on Dodge Co tomorrow at 5:30pm.
