Bears power past Demons

After an inning it was close. After two it was not. Such was the matchup between host Warner Robins and Houston County Monday.

The Bears got out front with two in the first – a walk and an error didn’t help. Unless … you’re Coleman Willis and take advantage of the table set with a two-run RBI single. The Demons answered that with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Cameron Burks singled. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and came home Cam Thrift’s double.

That was to do it for Warner Robins. Houston County scored three in the second and went on to a 12-1 win in five innings.

The Bears’ other runs came in the fourth, four, and fifth, three. They out-hit their host 13-4.

Willis went on to finish 2-3 with a walk. He drove in the two and also scored two. Drew Burress was 2-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Treyson Hughes was 2-4 with two driven in and one scored and Trent Ringer was 2-4 with two driven in. Garrett Holman also drove in two with a 1-3 performance – he also walked – and Gage Harrelson drove in himself with a homerun. He was 1-2, walked twice and scored three times.

Andrew Dunford went three innings for Houston County. He gave up three hits, the run and struck out four. Ringer went the final two. He struck out two.

X Thrift took the loss. He went three and a third, gave up eight hits, nine runs, struck out two but also walked five.

Houston County, coming off a 9-7 loss Saturday to Locust Grove, but picking up a 10-0 win over Region 1-AAAAAA opponent Valdosta Friday, improved to 10-4. Warner Robins fell to 4-5.
