Carson Shaw walks off Whitewater to send Perry to the Elite Eight

The Perry Panthers hosted the Whitewater Wildcats in a winner-take-all Game Three in the Sweet Sixteen of the GHSA AAAA Playoffs and the result was a Panthers’ victory 2-1 to win the series and advance to the Elite Eight. The first four innings went scoreless and the Wildcats got the scoring started in the top of the fifth when Devin Elsenpeter hit a sac fly to drive in Austen Davis to make the score 1-0 Whitewater.

In the top half of inning six with one out on the board, Colter Ginn hit a game-tying solo jack to left and the game would remain tied going into the last of the seventh after Ginn came in to relieve SP Kam Vandersee in the top half of the seventh and shut down the visitors.

With two outs on the board and Nate O’Rear at second, Carson Shaw would hit a walk-off rbi single to drive in O’Rear but he tripped over the third baseman and it was called obstruction and he got to home plate and this would walk-off the series to send the Maroon, Gold, and White to the Elite Eight.

Colter Ginn and Carson Shaw had both of Perry’s rbis and Devin Elsenpeter had Whitewater’s lone rbi of the contest. Panthers’ SP Kam Vandersee pitched 6 1/3rd innings and surrendered one earned run on two hits, walking six, and striking out five and Colter Ginn relief pitched the last 2/3rds innings and he surrendered no runs on no hits, walking none, and striking out none in the process.

The Wildcats’ two pitchers combined to allow two earned runs on six hits, walking two, and striking out four in the process. The Panthers improve to 24-8 on the season and will host the two time defending AAAA State Champion North Oconee Titans in the Elite Eight next Monday weather possibly permitting and Whitewater wraps up 2024 at 19-16 overall.
