Demonettes dominate; Demons hold off Eagles in OT; Bears split with Greyhounds; Other Results

Both Warner Robins teams continued their hold over both Northside teams in Basketball as the visitors picked up the victories tonight at the Eagle’s Nest. The Demonettes defeated the Lady Eagles 55-33 in the afternoon game that started off slow for both teams. Warner Robins scored first & led 10-6 after one & opened the game up by outscoring the Lady Eagles 18-7 in the second to lead 28-13 at the half

The Demonettes pushed the lead to 19 & then after a Lady Eagle timeout, Northside got on a run & cut the gap down to 8 late in the third to give them life. Warner Robins scored the last two points of the third to lead the Lady Eagles 49-39 after three. Northside opened the fourth quarter by going cold in getting points & the Demonettes were able to build the lead back up & finish off the Lady Eagles by outscoring them 16-4 in the fourth to win 55-33.

The Demonettes improve to 19-3 overall while the Lady Eagles fell to 2-17 overall after dropping their 15th game in a row.

Demonettes scoring leaders: Jada Morgan 15 pts, Tasia Agee & Korveanna Slaughter 9 pts each
Lady Eagles scoring leaders: Camiyah Hudson 12 pts, Taylor Johnson 10 pts

The boys game would be a different story as both teams kept one another within 8 pts throughout the entirety of the game. Warner Robins & Northside started the game by going back & forth with each other as the score read 20-19 Demons after one. Both teams continued to swap the lead throughout the second quarter as the Demons outscored the Eagles 15-14 in the frame to lead 35-33 at the half.

The second half got underway as both teams continued to go back & forth by each getting on small runs & the Eagles won the third quarter 18-17 to cut the gap to 1 as Warner Robins led 51-50 after three. Northside led by 5 with less than 1:40 left to play; after failing to make their second free throw shot, Cam Perkins of the Demons was able to get the hoop & the harm & would make the free throw shot to cut the gap down to 2 late.

The Demons had the ball go out of bounds with :04.4 left in regulation & gave the Eagles one last shot to win it at the buzzer. Eagles Keron Milton missed the potential GW 2 as time expired & the score was 66 all at the end of regulation. That would usher in overtime where both team’s first points were from beyond the arc & the game would later be tied at 71 all with :04.2 remaining in the extra frame.

Warner Robins had possession of the ball as Jay Johnson threw in to find Gabe Jacobs who made the go-ahead 2 pt field goal with :01.0 remaining. Northside’s Ricardo Jones heaved a miracle 3-pt attempt that would be too strong & no good as time expired & the Demons pulled out the victory 73-71 in overtime.

Warner Robins improved to 14-6 overall while the Eagles fell to 5-14 overall after dropping their 7th consecutive game.

Northside scoring leaders: Ricardo Jones 27 pts, Keron Milton 22 pts

Elsewhere, The HoCo squads hosted Jones Co at the Bear’s Den tonight that resulted in a split. A 62-26 loss for the Lady Bears & a 67-57 win for the Bears. With the loss; the Lady Bears fell to 9-11 overall while the Lady Greyhounds improved to 17-6 overall. The HoCo Bears improved to 12-9 overall after winning their second consecutive game while the Greyhounds fell to 14-9 overall after losing their fourth consecutive game.

The Panther Pit featured county rivals Veterans & Perry earlier tonight in their rematch with each other from December 28th. The Warhawks were able to defeat the Panthers 72-56 to split the regular season at 1 win a piece while the Veterans girls swept the season series over Perry by winning 54-28 to improve to 19-3 overall while the Lady Panthers fell to 8-12 overall. The Warhawks improved to 13-8 overall while the Panthers fell to 9-11 overall.

Perry, Veterans, & Warner Robins were all in action Friday that resulted in all three girls & boys teams picking up victories over their opponents. Warner Robins traveled to play at Jones Co which resulted in a Demons sweep of the Greyhounds. The Demonettes; who defeated the Lady Greyhounds 44-43 back on December 6th were able to win by a larger margin; a final score of 50-38 to sweep Jones Co for the regular season while the Warner Robins boys defeated the Greyhounds 73-69.

The Warhawks squads made the short trip over to Fort Valley to play Peach Co which resulted in a Warhawks sweep. The Lady Warhawks defeated the Lady Trojans 63-51 while the Warhawks defeated the Trojans 81-53. The Perry teams traveled to Griffin to take on the Spalding Jaguars which resulted in a Panthers sweep. The Perry girls defeated the Lady Jaguars 59-57 in overtime while the Perry boys won 56-54 over Spalding.
