HoCo blanks Thomas Co Central; Eagles shutout by Tift Co; Warhawks fall at home to Lee Co by one; Demons shutout last night

HoCo came into this evening’s game against Thomas Co Central with one thing on their minds…. play with a killer mentality on Tuesday games & this evening’s contest showed just that as the Bears shutout the Yellow Jackets 13-0 in five innings to pick up the win. Drew Burress got the scoring started with a solo home run deep to left in the bottom half of the first.

After a scoreless bottom half of the second; HoCo blew the doors open with four runs in the bottom half of the third to lead 5-0 heading into the fourth. The Bears put the game away with a monstrous 8-run bottom half of the fourth that was highlighted by an Eli Stephens two rbi double & a Kai Decker two rbi double to push the lead to 13-0 HoCo going into the top of the fifth.

Brooks Willis came in relief of SP Ryker Chavis & finished TCC off by allowing no runs in the top half of the fifth including one strikeout to preserve the shutout & give the Bears the 13-0 victory. SP Ryker Chavis pitched another gem as he allowed no runs on two hits, struck out seven, & walked none in four innings of work.

Eli Stephens, Elijah Smith, & Kai Decker led HoCo in rbis with two a piece followed by Drew Burress, Andrew Dunford, Hunter Chiappetta, Ty Waters, & Ethan Buffone with one. The Bears had 15 hits & committed no errors while the Yellow Jackets had two hits & committed three errors.

HoCo improves to 16-1 overall; 7-0 in region play while Thomas Co Central fell to 10-8 overall; 3-4 in region play. These two teams will meet again on Friday March 24th down in Thomasville for a critical region doubleheader.

Elsewhere; Northside traveled to play at Tift Co earlier this evening which resulted in a 10-0 Blue Devil shutout victory in five innings. J Dorman was the SP for Tift Co & he allowed no runs on three hits, struck out six, & walked none in five innings of work. The Blue Devils had no runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth, & two in the fifth.

Tift Co had eight hits & committed no errors while the Eagles had three hits & committed one error. The Blue Devils improve to 15-2 overall; 6-1 in region play while Northside falls to 3-16 overall; 0-7 in region play. Eagles starting pitcher Rhett Adams allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits, walked one, & struck out one.

These two teams will meet at the Eagle’s Nest on Friday for a region doubleheader.

Veterans hosted Lee Co this evening & this was by far the closest contested game of the day as both teams pitched well but the Trojans walked away with the 3-2 region victory over the Warhawks. Veterans struck first with a run in the bottom half of the second to lead 1-0. Lee Co found two runs in the top of the third to lead 2-1 & pushed their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth.

The Warhawks closed the gap down to one in the bottom half of the fifth to trail 3-2 which would ultimately be the final score as the sixth & seventh innings went scoreless. Veterans SP Cody Daugherty allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits, walked four, & struck out eleven in a complete outing on the mound.

Trojans SP Gaven Smith allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits, walked one, & struck out nine in a complete outing on the mound. The Warhawks had five hits & committed no errors while the Trojans also had five hits & committed no errors.

Lee Co improved to 14-4 overall; 5-2 in region play while Veterans fell to 8-10 overall; 0-7 in region play. These two will square off again on Friday down in Leesburg for a region doubleheader.

Last night; Warner Robins hosted Union Grove which resulted in a Wolverines shutout victory 11-0. Union Grove scored seven runs in the top half of the seventh & allowed one hit the whole night. The Wolverines improved to 11-3 overall; 7-0 in region play while the Demons fell to 2-14 overall; 0-9 in region play. These two will meet in Henry Co tommorrow at 6:00pm

Union Grove had 10 hits & committed three errors while Warner Robins had one hit & committed two errors.
