Houston County got its Region 1-AAAAAA schedule under way Wednesday. It hosted Lee County where it was good news and not-so-good news.
For the girls it was the first. They won 49-38. In the process, they improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the division. The Lady Trojans fell to 4-5, 0-1.
Houston County was led by Kendra Roberts and T.J. Lawrence, each of which scored 13. Destiny Reed, with 13, paced the visitor, which led 8-4 after one and 19-15 at the half. The Lady Bears tied it at 32 after three and then outscored Lee County 17-6 in the fourth.
The Bears on the other hand were the recipients of the not-so-good news. They fell 60-55. A slow start certainly didn’t help their cause. They were outscored 15-7 in the first. The second was much more to their liking as they put up 22 to the Trojans’ 10. That gave them a 29-25 lead at the half.
Lee County, however, edged them in the third, 19-16, and fourth, 16-10.
The Trojans in turn improved to 7-3 overall, 1-0 in 1-AAAAAA. The Bears fell to 4-5, 0-1.
