Houston County put together a highly-productive weekend, winning two out of three games.
The Lady Bears beat Northside 12-5 on Friday, fell to Harris County 7-4 Saturday morning, but rebounded to dominate Marion County 12-1.
Houston County actually out-hit Harris County 9-6, but left 13 runners on base. (The Lady Tigers also stranded eight.) Averi Martin, Kendall Huelsman and Elena Olson each had a pair of hits in the loss. Martin was 2-3, Huelsman 2-4 and Olson 2-2.
Three Lady Bears pitchers – Kaylen Williams, Tess Rollins and Ally Fleming – attempted to silence the opposition. Harris County jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one and increased it to 4-0 after two.
Houston County rallied for one in the third and three in the fourth to tie it, but the Lady Tigers responded with two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Against Marion County the Lady Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one. They increased it to 8-0 after two and then finished the contest off with four runs in the fourth.
They out-hit Marion County 15-2. Alice Thomas went 3-4 with three runs scored. Martin went 3-3, collected two RBIs and scored twice. Huelsman went 2-2, drove in two and scored once and Hannah Cantrell went 1-3 with three driven in. Cantrell also worked three innings and Ally Fleming one. The first gave up two hits, struck out one and walked two. The second worked a perfect inning with a strikeout.
