Lens: Serving up success – 2014-2016 Veteran’s volleyball

The Veterans Warhawks volleyball team has had great success for most of its lifetime, and their greatest success came in a 3-year window from 2014-2016. The 2014 team had an overall record of 34-13 and a 10-0 record in region play. Veterans played county rival Perry six times and won all six games, they also split their two game series against rival Northside and would later defeat rival Warner Robins 2-1 to win the County Championship.

The Warhawks’ Playoff run consisted of 3-0 victories over Chestatee and Hampton to advance to the State Championship. Veterans entered the State Quarterfinals as the 8-seed and they took on the 1-seed in Sandy Creek but would lose to the Patriots 3-0.

The Red and Blue had some highlight wins during the 2015 season including a two game sweep of Lee County and a three game sweep of Tift County. Veterans lost to rival Houston Co 2-0 and Chamblee 2-1 in the regular season but they would get redemption against both teams by defeating Houston County 2-0 to win the County Championship and later defeating Chamblee 3-0 in the First Round.

The Warhawks’ season came to an end in the Second Round as they fell 3-0 to Woodward Academy and the Ladies finished the 2015 season with a 37-8 overall record and a 10-0 region record.

Veterans’ 2016 Volleyball team took a 2-0 region loss to Harris Co during the regular season which snapped a 42-game region win streak for the Warhawks, it was their first region loss since losing to Shaw 2-1 back in 2012. Veterans went on a 12-game win streak from September 8th-September 17th but would ultimately see the streak come to an end when they lost to Chamblee on September 17th, a day that was preceded by three other games that Veterans would win. Coach Nikki Miranda’s squad snagged another County Championship by defeating rival Warner Robins 2-1 and would later score a pair of Playoff wins over Grady and Starr’s Mill both by a score of 3-0. Veterans would go into the State Championship as the 4-seed and they took on Ola who was the 5-seed and the Mustangs would end the Warhawks season in the State Quarterfinals by winning 3-2. Veterans finished the season with an overall record of 30-8 and a 5-1 region record.
