Lens and Listen: The one that got away – 2015 Veterans girl’s basketball

“There’s always one that gets away
The one that sneaks up on you then slips away”    Pink

This is heart wrenching story of the 2015 final four battle between the  Lady Warhawks and Carrollton High School Lady Trojans.  The one that got away.

The Lady Trojans,  riding the energy of an ever growing hometown crowd at the University of West Georgia, saw a lifted prayer answered.  With 5.5 seconds remaining they took their only lead of the game and held for the (43-42) victory.  The loss ended the season for Veterans with a record of 30-2.

Coach Nikki Miranda’s squad charged into the 2015 basketball season with one thought in mind – a state championship.  A thought that was not out of the realm of possibility considering the returning talent.

The 2014-2015 Veterans Girls  16-player roster had 15 upper classmen; 9 Juniors and 6 seniors . The red and blue  had a strong team throughout the season as they jumped out to an incredible 16-0 start. During this run, the ladies demolished  region foe Upson-Lee 80-16.  They suffered their lone loss of the regular season when they dropped a 44-39 region game at Mary Persons. Veterans defeated rival Perry 60-39 to win the region championship  and take the #1 seed in the AAAA state playoffs . The team  picked up a trio of playoff  wins against Bainr bridge, North Hall, and Marist.

We salute the Veterans girl’s program by remembering one of it’s most talented teams.  Lens and Listen:  2015 Veterans Girls Varsity Basketball team.
