Mary Persons splits with Calvary Day; Game Three tomorrow

The Mary Persons Bulldogs made the trip to Savannah to play the Calvary Day Cavaliers in a doubleheader in the AAA Final Four and the result was a split with MP taking Game One 4-3 and Calvary Day taking Game Two 12-1 in five innings, forcing a winner-take-all Game Three tomorrow.

The Black, Gold, and White got the scoring started in Game One in the top half of the third when Wiley Smith scored on a passed ball to make the score 1-0 Bulldogs. The host would tie the game on an rbi double in the last of the third to tie the game at 1 and this would be the score through five innings of play.

The Bulldogs would plate three runs in the top of the sixth via two doubles, a two rbi double was hit by Wiley Smith to drive in Lake Evans and Jake Gore to make the score 3-1 MP and Gavin Barr hit the rbi double to drive in Wiley Smith to make the score 4-1 MP which would be the score going to the last of the seventh.

The host tightened the game by plating two runs but before they made it 4-3, a runner was tagged out at home that would have originally been third run and it kept the game at 4-2 but a third run was scored by CD on a sac fly but they could not tie the game up and the Black, Gold, and White held on to win Game One 4-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.

Wiley Smith led the Bulldogs in rbis with two followed by Gavin Barr with one and two players had both of Calvary Day’s rbis in Game One. Cole Carr was the SP for MP and he pitched six innings surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking five, and striking out six while his reliever Tristan Hunt pitched inning seven and surrendered one earned run on one hit, walking none, and striking out none in the process.

The Cavaliers’ two pitchers combined to surrender four runs (three earned) on seven hits, walking two, and striking out five in the process.

Game Two would be a one sided contested with Calvary Day annihilating the Bulldogs 12-1 in five innings thanks to a seven run top of the second. All four of Mary Persons’ errors in Game Two occurred in the top of the second and resulted in four Cavalier runs. Tristan Hunt hit an rbi single to drive in Jake Gore to plate the Bulldogs’ lone run of Game Two.

This Final Four series is tied at 1 a piece and Game Three will be tomorrow at 4pm with a trip to the AAA Final on the line.
