AliRae Dykes drove in four, Carleigh Turrell a pair and Reagan Hughes and Madison Homen one each, as Perry left little doubt which team would be the No. 1 seed representing Region 2-AAAA in the GHSA Class AAAA state tournament.
The Lady Panthers, after splitting the first two games with West Laurens Wednesday, beat the Lady Raiders 10-1 Thursday in the series’ deciding Game 3 at Perry.
The third inning proved to be the turning point for the newly-crown region champs. The Lady Panthers scored eight during that span.
Carsen Garner singled to start the inning. Homen reached on an error and Trinity Odom sacrificed them over before Dykes singled them in.
The inning continued with Abby Ussery’s single. Harley Crumley was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Hughes walked. That made it 3-0. Turrell made it 5-0 with a single. Garner was walked. Homen made it 6-0 with a base hit. Turrell and Garner each scored on an error after Odom’s single.
Perry added two more runs in the fifth and final inning off a leadoff walk by Turrell and singles by Homen, Odom and Dykes.
Homen also threw a complete game. She scattered five hits – the Lady Panthers had 10 – while striking out one and walking two.
Perry will host the No. 4 seed out of Region 4-AAAA when the state tournament starts Oct. 8.
Note: Veterans will also host in Class AAAAA. They, the No. 2 seed, will play McIntosh, the No. 3 out of Region 3.
