Perry and West Laurens have met twice this week – with a third Region 2-AAAA meeting set for Friday.
The first was Monday at the home of the Raiders and resulted in a 4-3 win for them. The second was Wednesday at the home of the Panthers and resulted in a 2-0 win for them. A good part of the latter victory went to Jayden Chance. He worked a complete-game, seven innings, while scattering four hits. He also struck out 13 and only walked two.
Perry needed everything he could offer, because it only managed four hits as well.
Two of those went to Wade Gordon and two to Jackson Nipper. Gordon was 2-2 while Nipper was 2-3. One of his hits was a single that brought in a run in Perry’s third – the inning it scored both of its runs.
It started out with walks to Colby McCleese and Andrew Newhouse. A sacrifice bunt by Gordon moved them up a base where McCleese scored on a wild pitch and Newhouse came in on Nipper’s hit.
The results put the two at 1-1 in the division – Mary Persons and Howard are also 1-1 while Upson-Lee is 1-0. Perry is 4-10 overall while West Laurens is 12-4.
The day prior – Tuesday – Houston County logged its fourth-straight shutout. It was a 3-0 win over Region 1-AAAAAA foe Coffee.
Jaden Woods and Chandler Dawson teamed up to limit the Trojans to just two hits in the contest. Woods went five innings, gave up the hits while striking out seven and walking one. Dawson was perfect over two innings while fanning three.
