Veterans celebrates seniors; playdate results

Veterans honored its seniors Sept. 25 in a match against Mount de Sales. Those were: Players Alasha Heard and Maci Dykes and equipment managers Alex Roby, Jared Vinup, Bronson Ray and Landon Richie.

It was also the first night, Head Coach Marlene Rogers said, in which all three Lady Warhawks teams played on the same night in the same gym.

All three also won. The freshman squad beat Warner Robins in two sets. The junior varsity beat Mount de Sales in three sets and the varsity beat the Lady Cavaliers in two, 25-18 and 26-24.

Heard was “unstoppable,” Rogers said, with 16 kills. Shaylen Brown added four kills and two blocks. Meredith Buchanan served up three aces and Abby Cross pulled up six digs. Sydney Hudson put up 16 assists.

Veterans was also coming off its weekend – Sept. 22 – playdate. That featured six teams going head-to-head: The Lady Warhawks, who finished 3-1, Warner Robins, Houston County, Union Grove, South Effingham and Shaw.

Veterans beat Union Grove 2-1 (25-12, 17-25, 15-10), Houston County 2-0 (25-13, 25-23), Shaw 2-0 (25-10, 25-14) and fell to South Effingham 2-0 (25-14, 25-14).

The Demonettes came away perfect, 4-0. They beat South Effingham 2-1 (20-25, 25-16, 15-12), Union Grove 2-0 (25-15, 25-11), Shaw 2-0 (25-15, 25-12) and the Lady Bears 2-0 (25-17, 25-17).

Houston County in turn finished 1-3. In addition to falling to the two local squads, it lost to Union Grove 2-0 (26-24, 25-23). Its win came against Shaw, 2-0 (25-17, 25-17).
