They played seven. Veterans really only needed three.
That’s when the Lady Warhawks did all of their scoring en route to an 8-3 win at Crawford County to get their season going. (Minus a scrimmage win over Jones County a day prior.)
Actually three innings was the key for both as Crawford did all of its scoring during the same span. Veterans scored two in the first. It started with a leadoff single by Nicole Chavous. Alli Edison reached on an error. Chavous was caught stealing and Olivia Brown struck out. Cailyn Snellgrove then singled and Madison Bunnell doubled. That brought home Eidson. Kasey Gibson singled to bring in Snellgrove.
Crawford answered with one in the bottom of the inning, but the Lady Warhawks added two more in the top of the second and then put four on the board in the third. Crawford’s final two runs came in the third.
Veterans out-hit it 14-6.
Brown went the distance for the win. She struck out three and walked two.
