Warhawks’ Daugherty strikes out seven as Veterans dominates Northside

The Veterans Warhawks started off a tad slow in their region road contest against Northside until they found their groove in the the second inning as the Warhawks would dominate the Eagles by winning 17-0 in five innings. The game started a tad slow as both teams had two runners in scoring position in the first inning but neither team could run in a run.

Veterans scored four runs in the top half of the second…. one by single, one by fielder’s choice, & two by walks. After a scoreless third inning by both teams, the Warhawks put the game to bed with a nine run top half of the fourth inning to push their lead to 13-0…. the entire Veterans starting lineup was ran in during that frame.

The Warhawks plated four more runs in the top half of the fifth to increase their lead to 17-0 which would be the final score of the contest. Veterans SP Cody Daugherty allowed no runs on two hits, walked none, & struck out seven in four innings of work. Bryce Dryden came in relief in the bottom half of the fifth & allowed no runs, no hits, walking none, & striking out two to finish out the game.

Northside’s pitchers allowed 17 runs (16 earned) on 14 hits, walking seven, & striking out four. Keegan McLemore led Veterans with four rbis followed by Tanner O’Neal with three, Bryce Dryden & Gavin Pike with two, & Brandon Mercer, JT Taylor, JJ Howe, Clay Thomas, & Jacob Beach with one.

The Warhawks had 16 hits & committed no errors while the Eagles had two hits & committed five errors. Veterans improved to 9-12 overall; 1-9 in region play, while Northside fell to 3-19 overall; 0-10 in region play. These two teams will face each other again at the Warhawks’ Nest on Friday March 31st in a doubleheader.
