Warhawks swept by Lee Co; Demons fall to Union Grove twice in three days

The Veterans Warhawks & Lee Co Trojans battled hard in both games of the doubleheader yesterday down in Leesburg that resulted in a Trojans sweep of the Warhawks…. a 3-2 win in game one & a 3-1 win in game two. Lee Co got the scoring in game one started with one run in the bottom half of the first.

Veterans tied the game at 1 in the top half of the second by way of a Bryce Dryden rbi single & the game remained tied at 1 midway through game one. The Trojans retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a Carter Singletary rbi single to lead 2-1 until the Warhawks tied the game back up in the top half of the sixth via a JT Taylor sac fly.

Game one went to the bottom half of the seventh tied at two & Lee Co had the bases loaded with two outs when Gavin Brinkley came to the plate & hit a walk-off rbi single to give the Trojans the 3-2 victory in game one. Lee Co SP Greyson Holley gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits, walked two, & struck out seven in six innings of work.

Veterans SP Gavin Pike gave up two runs (both earned) on seven hits, walked two, & struck out four in six innings of work. The Trojans had 12 hits & committed no errors while the Warhawks had five hits & committed no errors.

Game two would be another low-scoring contest that would remain scoreless through the first three innings. Veterans struck first in game two via a JT Taylor rbi single in the top half of the fourth to lead 1-0. Lee Co tied the game at one in the bottom half of the fourth with a Caden King rbi single & would take a 2-1 lead via a Brayden Proctor rbi double heading into the fifth.

The Trojans added to their lead in the bottom half of the sixth when Brent Smith hit an rbi single to give Lee Co a 3-1 lead which ultimately would be the final score in game two.

Billy Myler was the SP for the Trojans in game two & he gave up one run (earned) on five hits, walked none, & struck out seven in a complete game on the mound while Warhawks SP Noah Fries gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits, walked two, & struck out three in 5 1/3rd innings of work.

Lee Co had nine hits & committed three errors while Veterans had five hits & committed one error. The Trojans improved to 16-4 overall; 7-2 in region play & will play at Thomas Co Central next Tuesday at 5:45pm while the Warhawks fell to 8-12 overall; 0-9 in region play & will travel to take on county & region rival Northside next Tuesday at 6:00pm.

The Warner Robins Demons traveled to Union Grove this past Wednesday & lost 12-0 in five. They had two hits & committed three errors while Union Grove had 10 hits & committed no errors. These two teams met for the third & final time in 2023 at the Demon Diamond yesterday & the Wolverines won 12-2 in five innings.

Isiah Canion tied the game at one with an rbi single in the bottom of the first & the Demons scored a second run via a Union Grove error in the bottom half of the fifth. The Wolverines had nine hits & committed one error while Warner Robins had five hits & committed two errors.

Union Grove’s pitchers combined to allow two runs (one earned) on five hits, three walks, & eight strike outs while the Demons’ pitchers combined to allow 12 runs (six earned) on nine hits, three walks, & four strike outs. Union Grove currently sits at 13-3 overall; 9-0 in region play while Warner Robins currently sits at 2-16 overall; 0-11 in region play.

The Wolverines will host Ola next Monday at 5:55pm while the Demons prepare to host Eagle’s Landing next Monday at 5:55pm.
