Houston County started the 2026 season in impressive fashion Friday night, controlling the game on both sides of the ball in a 38-14 victory over West Forsyth in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic at Center Parc Stadium.
The Bears wasted little time taking control, jumping out to a 21-0 lead behind an offense that produced big plays early and a defense that kept the Wolverines in check.
Austin Stinson provided several explosive runs, while quarterback Ryan Maxwell helped keep the Houston County offense moving with connections to JT Thomas and the Bears’ receiving corps.
West Forsyth finally broke through late in the first half, putting together a lengthy scoring drive to cut Houston County’s advantage to 21-7 at halftime.
The Bears experienced a bit of a lull offensively through portions of the second and third quarters, and West Forsyth took advantage with a 95-yard touchdown pass to pull within 21-14.
Houston County responded.
Zion Paul scored on a one-yard touchdown run to give the Bears some breathing room and regain momentum.
Harrison Ludwig then connected on a 40-yard field goal, extending the Houston County advantage.
Stinson supplied the finishing touch with an 11-yard touchdown run, capping the scoring and putting the game away for the Bears.
Houston County’s defense allowed a couple of explosive plays but otherwise turned in a strong performance, particularly after halftime, while the offense consistently found ways to answer whenever West Forsyth threatened to make it a game.
The victory gives Houston County a 1-0 start to the 2026 season. The Bears will now head into their first open week before returning to action against Jones County.
