The Veterans Warhawks’ basketball teams hosted Thomas Co Central in a region matchup last night at home and the result was the Lady Warhawks winning a tight battle 50-47 and the Warhawks picking up a 68-60 victory. The girls’ game was close throughout as TCC would lead for much of the contest.. 15-10 after one, 27-19 at halftime, and 34-28 after three.
The host grabbed a brief one point lead before falling behind 41-35 with just under 3:50 to play in the contest before turning a corner at the absolute right time to end the game on a 15-6 run to pull off a big 50-47 region home victory. Veterans avenged their 58-52 loss to the Lady Jackets two weeks prior.
Simone Sadler and Camila Vicioso each led Veterans in scoring with 10 points a piece while Jaden Crews led TCC in scoring with 16 points followed by Chan Dunbar with 15 points (five made National Exterminating three point field goals).
The boys’ game would be mainly controlled by the host as the Red, White, and Blue led 15-12 after one, and 33-27 at halftime. The host would build up a 14-point lead in quarter three and would lead 54-44 at the start of the fourth. The Yellowjackets were able to erase the deficit and ultimately take a slim one point lead before the Warhawks got on a run in the final minutes to win 68-60.
Like the girls, the Veterans boys would avenge their 61-60 loss to TCC from two weeks prior. Jaivyon Dawson led the Warhawks in scoring with 20 points followed by Braylen Lott with 14 points while the Jackets were led in scoring by Eric Love with 24 points followed by Colby Mullinax with 12 points.
The Lady Warhawks will host Sumter Co on Monday while the Warhawks will host Northside on Thursday which is a make-up of what would have been today’s matchup but it got moved due to the threat of winter weather.
