Bears dominate Warhawks to remain perfect

The Houston County Bears wasted no time putting away the Veterans Warhawks on Friday night, exploding for 28 first-quarter points on their way to a commanding 49–10 win at Freedom Field.

The Bears opened the game with four first-quarter touchdowns. Colin Anderson powered into the end zone, while explosive runs from Westen Ard and KeirionTate extended the lead. Quarterback Ryan Maxwell also connected with MJ Mathis for a score, making it 28–0 after just one quarter of play.

Houston County kept rolling in the second quarter. Maxwell found Mathis again, Tate scored his second touchdown of the night, and Maxwell delivered another strike to Mathis to stretch the lead to 49–0.

Veterans finally broke through late in the first half. After a pair of strong special teams plays gave them field position, David Drake connected on a 36-yard field goal to get the Warhawks on the board. Moments later, RB Tylan Glover hit Mouhamadou Main on a deep 75-yard halfback pass touchdown, trimming the deficit to 49–10 at halftime.

The second half slowed to a defensive grind, with both teams trading punts and short drives, but the damage had already been done. Houston County coasted the rest of the way to secure the lopsided victory.

Houston County will play Northside at McConnell-Talbert Stadium this Friday.  The Warhawks continue their season when TCC comes to visit also on this Friday, October 3rd.
