Former HoCo Baseball star Drew Burress drafted by the A’s

Former HoCo Baseball star Drew Burress was drafted by the Athletics eighth overall in Round 1 of the 2026 MLB Draft earlier this afternoon. Burress played for Coach Matt Hopkins at HoCo from 2020-2023 winning two state titles in 2021 and 2023. In 2022, Burress recorded 74 rbis missing the state record by one and set the HoCo program record for home runs in a single season with 17.

During his senior season, Burress led the team with 59 rbis and would have had a shot at setting the state record for rbis in a single season but he went through a sstretch where he was intentionally walked. After high school, Burress went on to play NCAA Division 1 baseball at Georgia Tech where he spent the last three years at.

At Tech, Burress would go on to set the program record for career home runs with 60 and previously set the program record for home runs in a single game with four total. Burress becomes the sixth HoCo baseball player to be drafted by an MLB team joining DL Hall, Tony Locey, Jaden Woods, Andrew Dunford, and Gage Harrelson.
