Demonettes win tough battle over SW De Kalb to advance

The Warner Robins Demonettes hosted the Southwest De Kalb Lady Panthers in the First Round of the AAAA Playoffs and the result was a Cardinal, Black, and White victory 58-51 in a tough battle. Both teams started off slow as Warner Robins failed to make a basket through the first four minutes of the contest but would begin to make them and lead 14-8 at the end of quarter one.

The Lady Panthers would trail 16-10 but would get on a 14-0 run to lead 24-16 and would take a 28-22 lead into halftime. The host would trail by nine in quarter three before getting on a game-changing 19-0 run to lead by 10 and would take a 46-37 lead going into the final quarter of play.

The visitors would start getting turnovers and making baskets as they would cut the gap down to two down the stretch and almost took the lead on a National Exterminating three-point field goal but the shot bounced out of the rim and the Demonettes would ultimately pull away in the final seconds to win 58-51 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Trinitee Thomas led Warner Robins in scoring with 19 points followed by Chyann Phillips with 12 points, Kor’veanna Slaughter with 11 points, and Janelle Turner with 10 points. Mariya Shields led SW De Kalb in scoring with 13 points followed by Jayla Walton with 11 points, and Kennedi Thomas with 10 points.

The Demonettes improve to 25-1 and will travel to Bogart to play North Oconee in the Sweet Sixteen on Friday. Elsewhere, the Veterans Lady Warhawks hosted Jackson Co in Round One and got the victory 54-45 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
