Lady Bears shutout Lady Warhawks twice to win county

CORRECTION: Senior Night was last Thursday against Tift Co

The HoCo Lady Bears hosted their region and county rival Veterans earlier this evening in a region doubleheader that resulted in a Lady Bears sweep by winning 14-0 in 4 and 8-0 in 5. The host got Game One going with a Kinley Snider three-run jack to plate the game’s first three runs in the last of the first.

HoCo’s Claire McArthur hit a solo jack to bring the score to 4-0 Lady Bears going into the top of the second. The Black, Silver, and White plated 4 more runs in the second, and six in the third to win Game One 14-0 over Veterans.

HoCo was led in rbis by junior Kinley Snider with five followed by Arianna McKenzie and Claire McArthur with three and Ansleigh Darby and Abbie Havard with one. Lady Bears’ SP Ally Fleming surrendered no runs on one hit, walking none, and striking out four in four innings of work.

Lady Warhawks pitching surrendered 14 runs (all earned) on 12 hits, walking four, and striking out 0. HoCo committed one error while Veterans committed no errors.

Game Two started off slower for the Black, Silver, and White as they plated no runs in the last of the first but they were able to get on the board in the last of the second by plating two runs via a Jacy Harrelson two rbi single. The host plated six runs in the last of the third that came via a Claire McArthur rbi single, a Hayley McElroy groundout rbi, a Jacy Harrelson three rbi double, and an Ansleigh Darby rbi single to bring the score to 8-0 HoCo.

The Lady Bears would win Game Two 8-0 to complete the three game season sweep of the Veterans Lady Warhawks. HoCo was led in rbis by Jacy Harrelson with five followed by Ansleigh Darby, Claire McArthur, and Hayley McElroy with one each. Lady Bears’ SP Tess Rollins surrendered no runs on four hits, walked none, and struck out six in five innings of work.

Veterans SP Kharisma White surrendered eight runs (all earned) on nine hits, walking none, and striking out one in three innings of work. Both teams committed one error in Game Two.

HoCo improves to 23-3 overall, 13-0 in region play and will host the Thomas Co Central Lady Yellowjackets in a region doubleheader on Thursday at 4 and 6pm. The Lady Bears have won county in 2023 and need one more region win to claim the region title.

The Lady Warhawks fall to 12-12 overall, 6-7 in region play and will host the Crisp Co Lady Cougars tomorrow at 5:30pm. The Black, Silver, and White outscored the Red, White, and Blue 32-2 in three games this season.
