Lady Warhawks dominate Northside; Warhawks surpass triple digits in win over Eagles

The Veterans basketball teams hosted county and region rival Northside last night on Senior Night and the result was a Warhawks’ sweep of the Eagles.

The girls’ game stayed close throughout the first quarter and a half of action as the host led Northside 12-10 after one and then, Veterans outscored the visitors 19-8 in the second quarter to take a 31-18 lead going into halftime. The Lady Warhawks continued to pull away as they would lead 45-25 after three quarters of play and they would go on to win 70-34 to sweep the regular season series against the Lady Eagles.

Veterans outscored Northside 39-16 in the second half which included outscoring the Lady Eagles 25-9 in quarter four. The Lady Warhawks were led in scoring by Des Seaton with 22 pts followed by Rionna Byrd with 12 pts while Northside was led in scoring by Camiyah Hudson with 10 pts.

Veterans improves to 19-5 overall; 8-i in region play after winning their 10th consecutive game while the Lady Eagles fell to 8-16 overall; 1-8 in region play and are currently on a 4-game losing streak. The seniors on the ’23-’24 Veterans Lady Warhawks team is as follows:

The boys’ game would start off with Northside jumping out to an 11-4 lead before Veterans ended quarter one on a 16-7 run to lead 20-18 heading into quarter two. The Warhawks opened the lead to over 10 pts before the Blue, Orange, and White cut the gap down to 6 at halftime with the host up 45-39.

The third quarter would be tight as both teams traded baskets and the score would read Veterans 65 Northside 58 and the fourth quarter would see a combined 62 pts as the Warhawks pulled away by outscoring the visitors 36-26 to bag the 101-84 victory. The final score was both team’s season highs in pts scored in a single game.

Veterans was led in scoring by Chandler Thomas with 28 pts followed by Tristan Abner with 25 pts and Tone Scott with 23 pts while Northside was led in scoring by Keron Milton with 28 pts followed by Lamar Burns with 14 pts, EJ Riley with 11 pts, and Braylon Price with 10 pts.

The Warhawks improve to 15-8 overall; 6-3 in region play while the Eagles fell to 7-17 overall; 0-9 in region play. The seniors on the ’23-’24 Veterans Warhawks teams is as follows:

Veterans will travel to Leesburg to play the Lee Co Trojans next Tuesday Night in their regular season finale while Northside will host Thomas Co Central next Friday Night in their regular season finale.
