Northside flips the momentum in the third quarter to down Jones Co

The Northside Eagles and Jones Co Greyhounds opened their 2023 seasons against each other earlier this evening in the Macon Touchdown Club Kickoff Classic at Mercer University that resulted in kind of a surprising Eagles victory 33-21. Northside got the scoring started with a 40 yd field goal by Robles to make it 3-0 Eagles in the first quarter.

Jones Co got on the board with a Tyler Stewart 45 yd receiving touchdown and the PAT made it 7-3 Greyhounds early in the second. Northside responded with a one play 59 yd touchdown drive when QB Damien Dee found Keron Milton with the 59 yd strike and the PAT made it 10-7 Eagles. The Purple, Gold, and White went with some trickery on a halfback pass from Zion Ragins to Zacari Thomas for a wide open 36 yd touchdown and the PAT made it 14-10 Jones Co which would be the score at halftime.

The Purple, White, and Gold added seven more points early in the third quarter with a 1 yd rush TD and the PAT made it 21-10 Greyhounds. Northside responded with a 22 yd touchdown pass by Damien Dee to Nicholas Lindor and the PAT made it 21-17 in favor of the Greyhounds.

Damien Dee made a big throw and catch to Ricardo Jones down to the Greyhounds 3 yd line and EJ Riley followed that up with a 3 yd rush touchdown and to make the score 23-21 Northside after the blocked PAT in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds lost steam in the fourth quarter as Robles made a 34 yd field goal to extend the Eagles lead to 26-21 in the fourth.

Late in the game; JC Coney put the game away with an 8 yd rush touchdown and the PAT put the Eagles up 33-21 and that would be the final score. The Blue, White, and Orange start off at 1-0 on the season and will host Peach Co next Friday while Jones Co falls to 0-1 and will host Dacula next Friday.

Northside’s Ricardo Jones got two interceptions in the fourth quarter that put the momentum in the Eagles’ favor.
