Panthers swept by Ware Co

The Perry Panthers hosted the Ware Co Gators earlier tonight and the result was a Ware Co sweep with the girls winning 57-41 and the boys winning 66-43. The girls game started out with the Lady Gators pouncing on the host and jumping out to a 31-5 lead in the second quarter. Perry would start making baskets and would end the first half on a 14-4 run to trail 35-19 at halftime.

The Lady Panthers would cut the gap all the way down to 8 points but would not get any closer as Ware Co pulled away and won 57-41. Rhi Mateyka led the Lady Gators in scoring with 16 points followed by Lydia Munford with 11 points while Perry was led in scoring by Anna Dean with 18 points followed by Kennedi Miller with 10 points.

Ware Co improves to 16-3 overall; 2-1 in region play while the Lady Panthers fall to 10-4 overall; 1-1 in region play. The boys’ game would be a close battle for three quarters as Ware Co scored the game’s first five points before the Panthers scored the next six. The Gators would lead 14-11 after one quarter of play but the host would play strong in quarter two to lead 24-19 before the visitors ended the first half on a 9-2 run to lead 28-26 at halftime.

The Panthers would continue to fight tough with Ware Co and would trail 44-38 going into the fourth quarter where everything would change. Perry got off on a cold start in quarter four while the Gators would be able to get hot and stay hot as they would outscore the host 22-5 in the final frame to win 66-43. The Gators were led in scoring by Tezhan Bolds with 18 points followed by Jarvis Wright with 14 points and Sirbari Williams with 11 points.

Perry was led in scoring by Juju Carswell with 17 points. Ware Co improves to 12-4 overall; 2-1 in region play while the Panthers fall to 3-13 overall; 0-3 in region play after losing their sixth consecutive game. The Maroon, Gold, and White will host Peach Co tomorrow afternoon.
