Veterans girls, boys take down Coffee; Perry splits with West Laurens

Veterans’ girls and boys got their Region 1-AAAAA battle off to a good start. Both beat Coffee Tuesday at home. The Warhawks, pulled away to a 10-point lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back. They won 83-55 to improve to 9-7, 1-0. The Trojans fell to 4-7, 0-1.

It was a bit more challenging for the Lady Warhawks. They had to rally to beat Coffee, 54-50. They trailed 12-7 after one and 22-15 at the half. They then outscored the visitors 16-11 in the third and 23-17 in the fourth for the win.

The Lady Warhawks, their fourth-straight win, improved to 7-9, 1-0. Coffee fell to 6-5, 0-1.

Next up for Veterans is Houston County. They will play the Bears and Lady Bears away on Jan. 11.

Elsewhere Perry’s squads split matchups with West Laurens. The Panthers rolled, 80-40, to improve to 5-4, 3-1 in 2-AAAA; the Raiders fell to 3-11, 2-3.

West Laurens took the early matchup on the girls side, 55-30. It was the Lady Panthers’ fourth-straight loss. They fell to 3-6, 2-2. The Lady Raiders on the other hand improved to 9-5, 4-1.

Perry is slated to take on Howard and Peach County next. Those games are slated for Friday and Saturday, respectively.
