Video: Smith credits continuity and culture

The Perry Panthers head into the 2025 season shaped by adversity, growth, and a strong cultural foundation. A tough 2–3 start against a challenging non-region schedule helped expose weaknesses early, but also prepared the team for region play, where they opened with two key road wins to establish momentum.

Despite dropping their final three region games (each decided in the fourth quarter) the Panthers identified areas for improvement, particularly in late-game execution. A first-round playoff exit ended the season sooner than hoped, but strong leadership from veteran players stood out as a defining positive.

The offseason has focused on strength, conditioning, and maintaining the program’s “Coffee Bean” culture, which emphasizes accountability, service and resilience. Coaching continuity has also remained a strength, fostering consistency within the program.

Looking ahead, Perry faces a new challenge in Region 2-AAAAA, with both familiar and new opponents raising the level of competition. With returning players stepping into bigger roles and new talent emerging, the Panthers aim to turn last season’s lessons into success in 2026.

Sportsmic team member Bud Pearce sat down with Perry Head Coach Kevin Smith to review the program as the Panthers head into Spring practice.  The interview is below:
